Halloween 2011
Halloween season for me starts to show up mid summer, then from Labor Day on I am consumed by it and then somewhere around the Friday a week before Halloween, I am OVER it.. which wasn't a bad situation pre toddler but now.. i have to push on for another week to celebrate for Oliver.
Well it was worth the push. Last night was truly special. We had the family over for dinner, then headed out trick or treatingthrough the neighborhood down our street. i had no idea our neighborhood got so into it. We brought the stroller so we can cover as many houses as possible and rack up plenty of candy that is not going to make losing 8 pounds before thanksgiving very easy. We got comment, after comment about our cute Garden Gnome, Santa Claus and Elf and what a polite little gnome he was, saying something that resembles "trick or treat" and thank you to every house. Probably the most unique moment of the night was the horse! Yeah that's right.. During dinner I answered the door, passed out candy to the trick or treaters and as i was surveying the costumes i saw a horse in the background right there at my front door. haha.. that cowgirl (and cowgirls mom who got the back end of the horse) deserved an award for best accessory!!! I feel the house of the driveway that the horse pooped in doesn't feel the same as me. Oliver loved seeing the horse but liked it from a distance.
We did some other fun Halloween activities over the past week too. Last Wednesday we went to Trunk or Treat at Gigi and Pop Pop's church which was fun. Oliver got to go through a haunted Pool Bus which was his favorite part of that evening. A few weeks ago we went to Corn Dawgs which is a corn maze and activity place and it was awesome. They had a slide there that Oliver literally went down 25 times... it was an awesome slide and i am thoroughly looking forward to riding down again next year. This past Sunday my mom, Oliver and I all went to the Buford Corn Maze and got a pumpkin and saw a cow and some horseys. Oliver also played in the corn kernel pit which is a favorite of his.
Great Halloween... others will be hard to top i think but Im sure we will try!!

Your not supposed to give me that look.. yet!
Crazy, crazy, crazy!! I am having a hard time keeping up with our lives! We are always on the go or if we stay in we play, play, play... haha.. trust me, im not complaining but I think this blog is a sure testament to how life has changed over the past 2 and a half years.
On to todays topic... Yesterday was Oliver's Halloween Party at school. I volunteered to be the class mom which at this age is very easy.. too easy if you ask me. Well i got to school along with all the other parents and we went inside their class... all the kids ran up to their mom hugging them and clinging to them saying hi and Oliver, well, starred at me.. I couldnt tell if it was a look of confusion or shock or what... hopefully it is not yet embarassement!! After the shock (or what we will refer to as the shock) wore off... we had a blast. We trick or treated to other classrooms, went on a hayride of sorts, and picked a pumpkin from their pumpkin patch. It was nice to spend time with him at his little school. It also gave me a chance to chat with his teachers.... which i found out that Oliver NEVER cries at school.... not even when its time to come in from the playground, which is CRAZY!

I lalayest you!!
Never could i ever imagine how amazing those three words would sound.... I always knew "I love you" would be utterly amazing coming from Oliver but "I Lalayest you" could possibly be even more amazing that I ever began to imagine.
Yesterday was all in all a pretty great day. I have been feeling kind of weird lately, not happy, not sad, tired and just unfocused which is soo frustrating for me. I am generally the type of person that gets stuff done quickly and moves on and gets something else done but lately i haven't been able to get anything done and my mind has been bouncing all over the place from one thought or idea to the next. Yesterday was the first day in a while where I completed some tasks, not back to my unusual productivity but well on the way.
It was a great day at home with my boys, windows were open, I cleaned out Oliver's closet and updated it with 24 month and 2T items.... and of course the Darius Rucker song came on during which ished a few tears to balled like a baby during.. lol. We went grocery shopping, cooked a fabulous dinner together, and then I went over to my best friends house.
When we came home Oliver insisted on cheese the whole ride home and after eating his cheese and taking off his clothes.. haha... I was getting him ready for bed and said I Love you like I normally do an infinite number of times a day.. (exaggerating, slightly).... and he said it back... I stood there in shock.. no one was home and my heart almost felt like it hurt cause it was so happy. After I composed myself I did what every mother has been doing for ages when that happens and status updated! (haha) and then repeatedly said it over and over to get the response again while videotaping.
Oliver is so smart... at Laura's house he got in trouble for a temper tantrum that only got worse in the car on the way home... He knew I wasn't happy and he was trying to stall going to bed.... so he pulled out the big guns with this "I lalayest you" stuff that he knew would buy him time and get him out of trouble... Clever Oliver, very clever.... It worked like a charm too.
After video taping, it was definitely time for bed (season finale of Teen Mom was coming on) so I layed him down and he said "Dada Home.. Dada Home" (Dada was out at his softball game)... I asked Oliver if he wanted to call Dada and he said "I lalayest you daddy" so I dialed right up and we left a message on his voicemail.. We then called Am-ma and Gigi and Pop Pop and then Aunt Kiki. Then he went right to sleep.
Daniel called after his game and sounded like he was all chocked up. He said... Did the voicemail say I love you daddy.... I almost cried myself telling him yes.... Daniel is such a sweet and caring dad. And on a side note he is Oliver's partner in crime... At the grocery store yesterday Oliver was staring at a lady walking by and looked up at Daniel and said "Butt Butt"... Daniel said "Are you checking out her butt?" Oliver had the hugest grin on his face and shook his head yes.
Boys!! Just don't forget Oliver.... You Lalayest me!!

I hate to do this....
But 2011 is passing this blog by and I don't want to just give up... So I am going to spend the next two hours at work (Sorry) to get this organized and caught up as best I can. Its going to be messy, confusing, and busy... much like life with an almost 2 year old.... but just like life is right now... it will be memorable, passionate and everything I ever wanted!!
Pinterest is taking over the world or just my brain... I am trying my hardest to avoid it and not get suckered in seeing as how facebook so easily consumed me but its down right hard. I have the ideas, wants and passion for crafts and DIY projects as a 12 year old girl at summer camp does but unlike that girl... I have a job, child, husband, mother, exercise routine, social life, BLOG, and tv lineup that just get in the way. This little blurb is just to inform my future self that didn't finish all those list of "to-do projects" that I honestly had the best of intentions.. :)
Lets touch base with Daniel... Daniel is well.... Daniel... same ole hubby that I adore as always. haha.. It is football season now.. and since September and generally October's football schedule overlap with Braves baseball, I am somewhat of a widow right now. He will deny this as the truth... while biting his nail because he is nervous that I am onto him.. haha... seriously, he is good.... working mostly, enjoying his favorite season (well not sure he is "enjoying" it since the Bulldogs didn't seem to show up to their 1st game of the season) and playing a lot of A-choo choo's. He was joking with me yesterday that he seems to have become a keeper of the toys... Oliver plays with a toy for a few minutes, then brings it to Daniel on his recliner to hold while he plays with a new toy... Daniel didn't like my response on why Oliver does that but the guy was watching a double header Braves game followed by the 1st non preseason NFL game... He knew his daddy wasnt going anywhere for a while.... it was the safest spot in the house! Daniel really is a great dad, when I do the catch up on Oliverparagraph book, you'll see why I adore him so! I am currently in the works of some texts to get him to take me on a date. :)
Next comes me..... I am busy busy busy. Although work has slowed down, most of my summer staff has left leaving me with a longer to do list. Mostly I am focusing on our Halloween Hoot event. I am looking forward to this fabulous club wide event like a goody two shoes looks forward to Christmas! (I was going to use the fat kid and cake reference but I am pretty passionate about cake myself and didn't want to insult my own ego). Besides working I am re-beginning my workout routine. I have 5 months to prep for my half marathon and one month to fit into my skinny jeans for Halloween. I do not want to reveal what I plan to be just yet but I will be wearing very tight jeans... well unless my workout and diet really take off like i want it to. I am equally as busy playing A-choo choo's as well as diving for foul balls and pitching up a storm. This month I am also planning / throwing my sister in laws baby shower, co hosting my mothers birthday luau and dum dum da dum...... (that was a drum roll) having a girls night out tomorrow night!! Whooo - hoooo!!! Can you tell its been a while? Laura and I are going downtown to Cheesecake Factory to INDULGE and DRINK!!
Alright, alright.... Its Ollie update time... where o where do I begin...

Baseball
As I sit down to type this on the couch I have to keep one eye out for the baseball that is flying about the room. Daniel is sitting in his chair pitching over and over again and shouting "Oh yeah!!, go dude!! good job OT" because Oliver is actually hitting the ball. Even though I am still completely amazed that he can even do this, it is quite the norm around here. I know Daniel couldnt be happier even though after pitching for hours on end it might look otherwise.
To say that Oliver loves baseball is completely an understatement. He is quite obsessed. We usually have to take a bat and a ball everywhere, especially if we are going to be somewhere that Oliver might see one. Shopping at Dicks Sporting Goods is no longer an option due to the amount of bats, balls, gloves, and various other baseball related items sold there. The word baseball comes out of Oliver's mouth hundreds of times a day Im sure. He loves to play baseball anywhere, anytime and with anyone.
I wonder what the future holds for this passionate (slightly obessive) characteristic of our son.... but I could win the bank if I put some money down to say it involves lots of dirt, umpires, concession food and FUN in our future!
GO OT!!

I always wonder what the Publix cashier thinks of my purchases. For instance, I just bought three gallons of milk, a bottle of wine, one slice of Publix bakery cake and a fitness magazine. My purchases are very contradictory.

In retrospect, I clearly see now that the server was reaching for a plate not to shake my hand. Oopsie!
"Thats a wrap"
Yesterday was one of the coolest things I have ever experienced. Being behind the scenes of a major movie set, inches from incredibly famous actors is still surreal! However, I doubt showbiz life is for the Smith's. I'm not going to lie and say we are done because I'm not sure what the future holds. A lot has just fallen into our laps so to speak the past year with Oliver, so at this point we will definitely do something like this again but it isn't something I will chase after for my child, that's pretty much how I look at his modeling as well.
I wish the day would have ended differently but Im not one bit upset about it. I really feel very happy that we got to add this extremely brief adventure in acting to our stories. So here is our day.
I manipulated Oliver's schedule in hopes of having him well rested and happy for his 1:30 call time. I now know that was pretty pointless! We left for Conyers (an hour away) and immediately Oliver fell asleep and woke up as we got off the exit. We parked in crew parking, loaded the shuttle and headed over to the set. We went into the cafeteria (we were in an old warehouse so this wasn't a real cafeteria)... there was an entire spread of any kind of food you could want and about 7 different pies and desserts as well as a beverage station. At the back there were approximately 6 tables filled with tables. The rest of the tables had table cloths on them and people were scattered about eating lunch. We headed to the back cause I figured that was where the rest of the extras were. The person in charge of us approached us and we got started on paperwork. While we were filling out paperwork I heard very familiar voices and I looked up to my right and noticed I was about 2 feet from the entire cast of guys. It was Jason Biggs voice that I recognized! We were way too close for me to sneak a picture, although I attempted to figure out a way to do it until Daniel yelled at me. haha. Then Allison Hannigan and her daughter came over to the guys and talked for a min. She was holding her little girl who I googled and she is like 9 months or so older than Oliver. They stopped and said hi to Oliver and did the typical conversation that I do when I'm showing Oliver another baby or toddler. SOO COOL!!
After we finished that we were taken to our trailer. All the other extras stayed in the cafeteria for the day but us along with the other toddler had a trailer. We went and put our stuff down and were told to go eat.. We had just eaten but we didn't know what else to do, so we did as we were told. haha. Then we just walked around for a while and the big name stars were all over the place... i don't know why this surprises me, I discovered i really am star struck.
Everything up to this part was so awesome and i thought it was just the beginning of the excitement. Unfortunately, that wasn't so. We spent 7 hours in and out of our trailer, eating food from the cafeteria and food truck, trying to take pictures of the stars, and trying to entertain ourselves. It was all so close. They even had wardrobe dress Daniel and I in case Oliver needed one or both of us in the scene to make him more comfortable.
Our representative guy came in the trailer a few times to tell us that they were almost ready for us, it would 30 more minutes or anytime now.... but his last visit he came out with a different tune and let us know that "that's a wrap" Yep.. the toddler scene at the party was cut!! I tried to ask him for some compensation to maybe let us see the set or get a picture with one of the stars but he joked and said the only compensation he had was validating our time card.
So there it is... our day in Hollywood, well Canton was close enough.

Peachtree Road Race 2011
Well since I am here to blog about it, it is safe to assume that I survived... ;) And I couldn't be prouder of myself.. well I COULD have. lol
I hadnt really been training for the Peachtree which makes me very frustrated because I could have gotten done quicker but honestly I had a blast doing it so maybe being done quicker is over rated... if not, thats just what I am going to tell myself. My official finish time is 1:29:01... I placed 40714... I am having trouble finding out how many people actual;y participated or crossed the finish line but i think it was more than 60,000.... so i am happy about it.. my goal is usually not to come in last and since I came in 3rd to last on the last 10k that i did, I'd say its an improvement!
This race was alot different than the last 10K that i did, so different that I cant even believe that they were both 10k's. The sheer pride and patriotism is uncanning at the Peachtree! The support and excitement is completely overwhelming and honestly just magical. It is unlike any other experience in my life and its so weird that about 60,000 people do it every year because I felt like I was part of an elite group.
Since this was my first year doing it and i didn't submit any qualifying times I began the race in section Y which is the last group. We started out under an enormous American Flag and the announcer sent us off with " Who let the dogs out" blaring over the speakers. It was cool to be running down such a busy Atlanta street, listening to music blaring over loud speakers or onlookers radio's that they brought to cheer runners on. we got about a mile or two into it and I had to go to the bathroom already pretty bad. I saw a bunch of port a potty's so I ran ahead, hurried in and out and met back up with Kelley. We were soo nervous that we would be separated and wouldn't have our phones to call each other. We went along the route, people watching, running, walking, and smiling alot. We passed the Fur bus, keg stands, the chickfila cow, runners in crazy costumes and by standers in even crazier costumes. I wish I would have had a phone or camera with me to capture the spirit of Atlanta for this event.. so fun!!
Heart attack Hill was just that!! It was tough but it was rewarding to know when it was behind us. We first went up a short incline that I thought was perhaps Heart attack Hill, so when we finished the real one, we were overjoyed. The heat was really unbearable and the refreshing warm water from the fire hydrants really didn't help. I heard many people this year say that the heat slowed them down and with the latest start time in the race at 9:05 am... it was tough!
It was awesome running and walking by numbers that started before us. We started in a group of all Y's, then ran past some X's, then T's, then N's. It was soo neat to see how we were progressing. We did do alot of running for not training like we should have. But we did some walking too, one time when we were walking the bystanders shouted "Come on walkers, you can do it".... It definitely helped me pick up the pace! Getting to the turn off of Peacthree and heading towards the park was so exciting. We really pushed ourselves here but it was tough to go around all the walkers. It definitely slowed us down. We had to run up on curbs, around large groups of people and wait when there wasn't room.
At this point we could see it, a huge blue line painted completely across the street with a make shift bridge above it filled with camera men snapping away. "It" was in sight, "it" was within reach.... we gave it all we had and ran! We passed over the blue line, I threw my fist up in the air and smiled for the cameras.. Kelley and I stopped and iembraced... We talked about how proud we were... we had done it.. we had a runners high..... until we heard shouts "Your almost there"..... "Just a little further"..... "You can do it"..... we looked around and everyone was still running... We werent done.... the line wasn't the finish line... it was all for the photo opt... we still had another half of mile to go!!! WTF! Do you know how long half a mile is when you just gave your everything to the last half of mile and then did 5.5 miles in 85 degree weather before that?
Oh it was soo soo sad. I could feel my runners high slipping away.. then a man collapsed a few feet ahead of us. I heard his wife yelling "thats my husband"... medic's rushed to his side and a crowd formed around... we continued to go by and when I turned around just when he was almost out of my view I saw medic's rip open his shirt to perform the defibrillator. (I later heard on the news that he is doing just fine now).
So now we are almost dying... running across an anti climatic finish line and just ready to be at work. We go get our t-shirt which we had already seen was not the one I voted for and went to the S balloon miles away to meet the family... who were not there! I borrowed several peoples phones to try to call and sweated all over them... it was so hard to get through because so many people in such a small area were doing the exact same thing.. and i think i got lucky and asked people with crappy phones. We finally got through and went back up to Peachtree Road to meet them which was another disaster in itself and headed towards MARTA.
Poor Daniel, my mom and aunt Kathy missed us running by cause we were on the left side and they were on the right. I felt awful that they had walked and traveled so much to see nothing... we got on overcrowded MARTA where I had to stand and hold Oliver on the train... at this point it is almost noon and I still have had nothing in me except my daily pill :), some cold water on the way to the race and some warm water during and after the race.... I'm hot, tired and weak and honestly had to try not to pass out on the MARTA train while holding Oliver... When we switched trains, I just sat down on the floor of the train station.. Eww Gross!
Haha... ok now it sounds like a nightmare but I promise... it was soo worth it and I cannot wait to do it again next year... now ill be more prepared on expectations, bringing my phone, where the free bananas are, etc.

Lake Day
It's the fabulous 4th of July weekend and we are thoroughly enjoying it already. Yesterday we got invited to go out on the lake with the gang (haha.. i sound like I'm from the 50's). I was extremely nervous to be going. Since losing about 70 pounds and then gaining back 8 since vacation (which i think i need to blog about) I think I was more self conscious and nervous about showing my body than I was 70 pounds ago. It didn't help that we arrived by land to Sunset Cove and you have to jump right into the water and swim out to the group on the boat. So we were there nearly 30 seconds before I had to remove the cover up and literally jump right in .... haha.
It was a great day! Not only did I have fun with everyone but I feel like I reconnected with people who I haven't seen in a while and had an amazing time floating in the water hanging on Daniel with a drink in my hand... It seriously couldn't get any better than that.
We did get to see an amazing showing just like what you would see on MTV the Grind or Spring Break... An entire boat of just booty shaking girls... which of course lead to a muscle man Jersey Shore type of fight including mace which we had front row seats for!
Did I mention it was an awesome day?!
Today we are going to our neighborhood pool party which I am sort of hosting. I joined to neighborhood social committee and today is the day when I get to meet a ton of neighbors. I am totally nervous!!
But I'm even more nervous for tomorrow!!!! Da-da-dum-dum-dum (not sure how to spell that!)

Life is going great
The Smith's are busy busy busy and I LOVE IT!.... i thrive on busy... I am my happiest when I am busy and when I finally find a minute or two hours to sit down and relax, I about go stir crazy.
We recently went on vacation to Myrtle Beach for a few days. It was soo nice to get away and we got to celebrate fathers day relaxiong on the beach... it was so wonderful and some great time for family bonding. ( I can never get enough of that) We got to see some old friends. We went kayaking with Kristen and Ken just like old times, hung out with Kelly and Justin and went to the pool and dinner with Graham and Michelle. We definitely need to make it a point to see these special people more often.
Back home it has been business (and fun) as usual. I have been spending alot of time with my bestie since she is off for the summer. It has been great getting the kids together and making plans that we will hopefully begin to get to. Daniel has had a few much neeeded outtings with the guys at the lake one day, a country concert another and random dart throwing nights. He is also playing softball this summer but of course it rains every Wednesday and their games get cancelled. Recently his work decided to be closed on Tuesdays instead of Mondays and even though that threw a tweak in our childcare situation it is great news for us since I am off on Tuesdays. I am busy training for the Peachtree Road Race on July 4th (this coming Monday, AHH!). I did a 5k with Oliver this past Saturday in Suwanee to benefit the Gwinnett County Fire Department and I am soo proud of myself cause I beat my best time by 3 minutes!!
Oliver has been talking up a storm and is simply just a complete mess of awesomeness. He has begun dancing and it is so funny. I cant even keep up with the stories about him. I'll end this post with one from yesterday morning.
I walk into Oliver's room cause I can hear he is awake and he is standing up in his crib. He looks at me, points to his "butt, butt" and says "poopy!".... sure enough, he was!! I hope this doesnt mean he is ready to potty train, cause I for sure I am not.

it sounds crazy that I think MB is the most romantic place but to me it is and this drive brings back so many memories... this is the place where we fell deep in love, where we made it on our own, where we decided we were "the one" and where that magical question was asked.... I love this drive!

"On Set"
Yesterday was a sensational day. There I was all caught up in my career when a phone call changed the day. Stacey is Oliver's agent so to speak and had informed me about a possible movie gig for a toddler. I thought about it for a few seconds, complied with entering Oliver and went on about my day. Then a few hours later my phone rang in my office, which is weird since I generally don't have cell service in there and I didn't recognize the number but I answered anyways. The man on the other end asked for Kelly Smith and then informed me that he got Oliver's pictures and would like for me to come down to Decatur to sign a minor work permit application at 7pm. I agreed and then asked him what this was for.....
He told me that Oliver was chosen to be a paid extra on the set of the movie American Reunion. It is part of the American Pie movie series and shooting for the scenes Oliver will take place in will be on Monday and Tuesday afternoon / evening (yay.. we still get to leave for vacation on Wednesday!). The man warned me that there will be foul language and some nudity (not full body) and although Oliver will not be in the scene with that he needed to let me know. I didn't think that would be a problem. ;)
Well after I heard the news I literally ran back into my office fell to my knees and then started jumping up and down. A little dramatic I am sure but seriously I was so excited! That pretty much ended my work day right there. I called Daniel, who giggled like a school girl with the news and then my mom who was a bit louder with her reaction. I then told all my staff the reason for why I was cutting out early, packed up my stuff and left. Haha... I mean I couldn't have been productive after that.
Luckily a very good friend of mine was at work with me. so i grabbed her and we headed out for a drink.. this definitely called for a celebration. And I needed some direction to where Decatur was even at (now I know that I already knew where Decatur was the whole time). We went down there grabbed some pizza and a beer and then finally found the set, which was at Druid Hills high School and a neighboring church. We saw extras all over the place and of course photographed some of them just in case we need to refer back to them once the movie comes out. (a little star struck, you think.... I don't know how I'm going to keep my cool next week). After passing through the most unprofessional and rude security guard we found a spot to park, and headed in side to meet the person who called me.
We were inside a cafeteria for all of about 5 minutes. I filled out the paperwork and the man told me the process of calling him Friday and what he would be doing. On the paperwork I was filling out, it told me that Oliver will be in a beach scene. The man told me he would be processing Oliver's work permit first thing in the am and it would take a few days to get back so it will be perfect timing for Mondays shoot.
That's really all I know now. He told me a few times what the job paid but honestly I can barely remember. It obviously isn't about the money. I think this is such a fun endeavor and a great pick up line for Oliver to use later in life on the ladies (yuck!).
I'm such a person that believes in signs, destiny and all things like that. It was never my intention to have a child model and or actor and the modeling thing was such a fun experience so maybe this will be as well. If its not and its a nightmare, at least it is still a story. haha

babble babble babble
Yesterday we took Oliver to his 18 month check up. He weighs 27 pounds and is in the 25th percentile for height, 60th for weight and 95th for head... pretty consistent to all his other checkups. We did the questionarre to see if he might show signs of autism. i am pretty familar with these signs from college so i knew that he wasnt.
The doctor asked how many words he knew and I began counting...
Georgia
Dada
Ball
Bat
Bye Bye
Bubble
Hi
Choo choo (not sure it that counts)
Mama
Bug
Stop
'thereheis (there it is)
waffle
juice
nobite (no bite)
i know there is al ot more but since the doctor only needed to know if he could say 6, I'd say this list is sufficient.
Oliver is always talking, singing. or saying bye bye... when cars come down the street, he stops playing to wave and say hi.. unfortunately we live in the beginning of a 270 home subdivision so he doesn't get much playtime in out front. I love the babble... i actually cannot get enough of it and i plan to soak it in for this short amount of time that it lasts.
I honor of my babbling buddy... Buh bye!!

Funny doesnt even describe
What life is like with Oliver.. He truly is going to be the class clown I'm sure.. just like his daddy!!
Yesterday he began sliding... He would pick up his bat, count to 3 (to,to,dee), swing and then fall to the floor with his hands out in front of him. He did it over and over and over and I never got tired of watching him. The best part about it is that we never showed him how to slide.. I am sure he learned it from the countless hours that the Braves have been on our TV so far this year! Which that in itself amazes me that he can learn something on his own.
He is turning into such a little boy!

WOW
Busy doesn't even begin to describe our life.. so instead of making promises or excuses I am just going to jump right in with another catch up blog..
Florida trip - Unfortunately, yet fortunately, we stole a little vacation.. We went to Florida last week because Papa, Daniel's grandfather passed away. He was such a kind man, married 61 years and 83 years old. Daniel loves his Papa and has such amazing memories with him. I had met Papa several times over the past 8 years and he seemed like such a happy man, a quiet man in his old age. He always seemed to just enjoy sitting back and watching the great big family he created run about in craziness, laugh with one another and just be. He always seemed so happy admiring what he created. I, on the other hand, admire him... The Smith's are a crazy bunch.. who fortunately for me, allowed me to slip right in and be part of it all. I was truly proud to be a part of my family last week, and I should mention that I always am very proud to be part of the Smith clan, but last week my heart felt a little fuller, a little more loving, a little wiser.. I cant put my finger on it and maybe I'm not supposed to but I kind of felt like a piece of Papa became part of me after he passed on and truly made me a Smith... I also feel like when you get married everyone talks about 2 becoming 1... and I got that... we have one home, one last name, one bank account, one future but our pasts... they could never become one because we weren't one... well Papa's passing felt almost like my own grandfather passed away... and I realized our pasts could become one.. it is our pasts that made us who we are today.. ok, I am seriously going on a tangent here.. haha.. I guess you can tell I had three days off to think about other things besides work!!
Royal Wedding - I mean it is no surprise that I was slightly obsessed with the Royal Wedding... I mean, I did "look" for William when I went to London babysitting in 2001... wouldn't that have been a great Royal Wedding story... American teen travels to London on a babysitting gig and meets PrinceCharming William.... (haha, seems all that Smith pride goes out the window for some royal fame huh?) Anyways... the wedding was incredible.. so sophisticated, unlike my dessert bar, karaoke wedding!! haha.. I'm sure the web would always hold content pictures and details of the day so no need to record them here.. but if anyone ever asks what I was doing for the Royal Wedding... well I was in Florida, I slept til it was time to see their kiss, watched bits and pieces at Mee mee's and when we got home from Florida, we watched it all again and again... And for the record... Daniel was slightly more obsessed with it than I was!!!
Tornadoes - Crazy weather has been tearing up the South this Spring and I cannot tell if it is me getting older or just being a worry wart mom or if weather has honestly gotten worse with all the global warming theories out there but it has been crazy.. I wake up and just stare in shock at the light show out the window, constantly watch the news and even grab OT out of bed cause I'm worried... well, its kind of good that we were in Florida last Wednesday, April 27th cause a tamoutous storm was headed and the meteorologists had their work cut out for them.. it would have been a sleepless night for sure. I felt awful for my mom being home alone but she was huddled in the safest part of the basement with the doggies and her helmet.. no joke... Glenn Burns told Atlantan's to get their helmets on... my mom is a very obedient citizen and did as she was told... ohhh to have seen that, I'm sure my dad had a heck of a chuckle. Well after the storms came through our area barely received a rain drop but the rest of the south wasn't so lucky. There have been reports of close to 300 people killed by 173 tornadoes in 5 states. NOAA said it was the worst tornado outbreak since 1974, when storms killed 315 people. The deadliest tornado outbreak on record was on March 18, 1925, when 695 people died. Incredible that nature has that much power and so devastating that so many were not a fortunate as we were. The tornado that hit Tuscaloosa, the hardest hit city, could have been on the ground for 176 miles, with winds between 167 and 200 mph. I even heard the tornado was a mile wide!! OMG... On our way home from Florida we were driving on I-75 and saw a bunch of trees just snapped in half on both sides of the highway. A tornado had skipped across 75!
Osama Bin Laden - it's too early to tell if this is a good thing or a bad thing as I fear retaliation but being a New Yorker and an American, i feel a lot of pride for getting that final word so to speak on the terrible situation. The American soldiers truly are amazing.. so selfless and so comforting to know they are protecting our country and that other countries and people cannot do things like 9/11 to America and get away with it! Now not only will 9/11 be a memorable date with terrorism but 5/1/11 will be as well. USA! USA! USA! And truly awesome America for celebrating with a flash mob!!
Easter festivities - Some of our Easter plans were dampened with the news of Papa but we did our best to celebrate Jesus and the resurrection. We went over to Daniel's parents early in the morning and saw them off to Florida and even enjoyed a delicious breakfast at Cracker Barrel. Then I went to the gym to run off the biscuits and gravy and continued with an afternoon walk to make a mileage total of 8 miles for the day! We did do the Easter Egg Hunt at New Liberty the weekend before and then Oliver had an Easter Party at school that Thursday. It was awesome too... I bought all the supplies to make Rice Krispie Treats shaped liked Easter Eggs and even bought some Fruity Pebbles to give them color... I went ahead and made the absolute messiest things i ever touched and prepped them to bring to school. When we walked into his class on Thursday, his teacher was so upset cause she forgot to mention that they were having an Easter party that day and everyone was required to bring a snack and their Easter basket.. YAY!! I was that mom!! We had prepared a snack... A quick call to Grandma to bring the Easter basket and it appears like I got this whole motherhood thing!! :) I need to ask her this week to see pictures cause the crappy part was that I had to go to work and couldn't stay for the party (no other parents were there, I just don't like to miss a party) Then on Saturday, I had to host my own Easter Egg Hunt and Family Fun Olympics at work and so my mom got to take Oliver to the Egg hunt at Lake Lanier... They had a great time, met a boy named Oliver and Oliver got to even wear his rain boots out in public since it had recently rained... What a day!! So glad we had such fun this Easter!
Transient Synovisis - Well this isn't nearly as fun as Easter was... since Oliver started school there has been a sick Smith... which Smith it is doesn't matter.. it usually is the shortest one though... but he equally shares with a taller housemate! So we dealt with pink eye already in April and just as that horrible, evil infection is out the door and pulling out of the drive, I notice a green goopy eye after Oliver woke up one morning.. Quickly I wiped it away, washed all hands, elbows, sheets, floors and tried to convince myself I didn't see what I did... The next day or so I took Oliver to Daniels parents while I worked and he was not acting himself and was very lethargic and had a fever... After a nights rest and TLC he seemed fine so we went on... That was Sunday and the on Wednesday my mom told me about a limp that Oliver picked up. She said she was putting him down and he seemed to not want to stand on his left leg which is common when he doesn't want you to put him down... I also thought he may have pulled a muscle or was copying Daniel who had a limp after a basketball game right around this same time.. By Friday I was worried and asked my mom to take him to the doctors... They did a full body exam but didn't think it was anything.. Over the weekend it continued and got worse. He was now seeming like he was in pain and was extremely frustrated and it was happening more often. On Monday i called his doctor and they referred us to an orthopedic surgeon to do an x-ray and check things out... Unfortunately over the weekend I googled what this may be despite my better judgement since webmd told me I had a stroke a few summers ago... I was a nervous wreck. We went to the surgeon and got xrays and Oliver limped for the doctor... He diagnosed Oliver with transient synovsis which is a virus or an allergic reaction to an infection in the body.. It causes inflammation of the hip which could cause limping and discomfort. It usually last 10 days and since we were just getting diagnosed at day 6 I was doubtful. The doctor said we would do further testing if he still had it the following week and that Oliver needs to stay as inactive as possible for the next few days (haha, yeah right!!)... well low and behold.. on exactly day 10 he stopped limping and hasn't slowed down since... i suspect he is trying to make up for all that time I required him to sit. I'm so happy that was all it was, still a bit confused on how that all happens but soo relieved!
ok.. this peak into our busy life is long enough.. im out!!
