I am titling this blog intentionally because i feel it really sums up a life lesson me and Daniel learned this week... I intentionally have been meaning to blog all week about all this different topics that were coming to my mind.. the random picture of my house, the progress on Oliver's room, my thoughts on my current friendships (yes i was about to get pretty deep) and i had a few more ideas stremaing through my mind... Well those were my intentions and as any parent knows your child may have different plans for your "intentions"... so my now my blog is about THURSDAY!!!!!
So all week i have been feeling sick with some type of stomach bug... i have been trying to dirnk plenty of fluids because i know that with a stomach bug is it easy to get dehydrated and i was trying to avoid that... By the time Thursday came around i knew something was wrong or getting worse... i had every symptom of dehydration that i found on wedmd so i called the doctor for advice... they recommended some ideas, clear liquids, no pedialite, start kick counts, and call tomorrow if i still have symptoms... so i went on about my day...
a little side note about my day... i looked really nice.. i had a cute fall outfit on and actual shoes cause my feet werent like bricks (i wonder if they weren's swollen cause i was dehydrated?? hmm)
well i was at work and walking down a hallway and i totally slipped!!! i mean i slipped to the ground... i was pretty graceful about the whole situation and i landed in a full on split and hopped immediately back up to avoid any more embrassement... i felt fine.. my knee was throbbing and like i said i was embarassed but i was ok... i called the doctor when i returned to my office just to seek advice and see if anything could be wrong... i got the same diagnosis... pay attention to my body and perform kick counts.. i had this urky feeling in the back of my mind that something felt different but i couldnt pinpoint what...
so i go through the rest of my day... counting Oliver's every move and poking him to get him to move more frequently.. I go home and order pizza and a dessert for me and daniel to have a relaxing evening together... (and everyone would be so proud, i was actually relaxing!!). We put on the tv and are eating dinner and i had been having a side cramp for about an hour or two that was very mild and i thought it was just another ache and pain of pregnancy.. well then the pain was getting more and more intense and i had to grab my side, then it was coming and going and i couldnt even concentrate on the tv or eating... i decided to get up and call Daniels mom (a nurse) just to see what she thought... no sooner did i give her all the details of my situation did the pain cause me to not event be able to concentrate on her response.. i gave the phone to daniel and got dressed.. we were going to the ER.
We are trying to rush out the door... scrambling to get the last few bites of dinner down, get a drink, jacket, etc... And my precious sweet scared to death husband is a nervous wreck... he put his jacket on with a piece of pizza in his hand and got food all over his sleeve, he put his drink in the car and missed the cup holder and spilt it everywhere... haha... it was the most precious thing i had ever seen.. so.. we are on our way to the hospital and daniel drives so fast and so quiet.. i can tell all these thoughts must have been running through his head of whats happening.. i was in too much pain to realize what might actually be going on.. then my poor mom calls.. i have no idea what she said on the phone to me... i just know that it was very important that i mask my voice and tell her we are just going to go by the er and get checked out after all the days events...
we get to the er and walk inside where they immediately get every ER person to assist me.. it was either because we had insurance or because they were dealing with a pregnant lady... they ask us all kinds of questions and then rush us over to labor and delievery.. we get checked in there and get put in an examination room...
the nurse has me put on a gown and runs a bunch of tests... she hooks me up to the machine where they put the belt around you to see contractions and to see the babys heartbeat... it shows that i actually am having contractions and my blood pressure and Oliver's heartbeat is through the roof... she calls our doctor on call and steps out of the room and then i begin to start throwing up... i am trying so hard to get daniel to step away but he is so amazing and stays there right with me... i KNOW that was so hard for him.. he does not do well with this stuff... the pain right now is unbeliveable and its spreading to my back... the nurse comes back in and tells us that they are going to keep us overnight!!! it has never dawned on me when we left the house that we wouldnt be back home...apparently the whole day, dehydration plus the shock of the fall caused me to start having contractions... they wanted to give me some medicine to stop the contractions, treat the pain and give me some iv fluids... this is when daniel stepped outside to call our parents..
the nurse got my iv all set up... (which has left me with a huge bruise down my arm).. then they brought us to our room in the antepartum section of hospital... the room was actually really nice..they had a pretty nice pull out bed for daniel... once we were in the room the nurse set up those belts to monitor Oliver all night long... and admistered me some medicine through IV's... i was starting to feel alot less pressure and even though i was still having contractions i could no longer feel them... so we relaxed and watched tv and finally fell asleep.. the nurse came in probably about every half hour throughout the night to adjust the heart monitor because Oliver was moving like CRAZY.... i will quote the nurse "he is out of control"... that statement got me thinking that that was proabably not the last time someone will tell me that about him!!! hmmm.
the next morning the doctor came to see me and checked everything out.. i was having alot of pressure in my back which he said was probably due to the fall but he checked and made sure i wasnt dialting.. everything looked good... and i will have a follow up appointment on tuesday when i have my 30 week appointment.
so were home.. Oliver is safe and snug for hopefully another 10 weeks... it was a huge wake up call and another amazing bonding experience between Daniel and I... We do know now how important it is to really get on our to do list and get everything ready for his arrival...
i know i blabbled on and gave every detail but i always do!! :)
Of course we had to take a picture!!
